The Obama rumor is YES!! He will return to Martha’s Vineyard….A little bird told me that the cell tower that was erected on the property that Mr. President stayed at, remains because he is returning and the scuttlebut with TSA is preparations are already underway.

Martha's Vineyard Obama visit

Is this good news for the island? Of course it is! Let’s be honest, as much as “the island people who love their privacy” and don’t like all the commotion of summer. Well let’s face it we all need the revenue this kind of publicity will hopefully bring.

I was born and raised here and just happen to be one of those kids that loved it when the “summer people” showed up! (Who new I’d be a real estate agent one day! Certainly not me!) I can remember when Labor day hit , the streets were empty , there were 3 or 4 cars parked on Main street in Vineyard Haven , and Oak Bluffs had its sheets of ply wood out ready to board up their windows. I always felt sad and a little empty inside knowing there was a long cold snowy winter ahead. But not anymore, since if we’re lucky we might get one or two good snow storms.

Now onto the real estate news!

Our Spring has picked up and I do believe we are looking at a much better season then last. I have seen a number of foreclosers which honestly in the past 20 years there has not been as many as recently. However on the bright side, I see a slight leveling off. Many homes have been selling around there assessed value or slightly below, but there are also a number of homes who have still sold above the assessed value. Either way the good news is that homes are selling and that is a good thing for the economy. Overall I think we are in for a good summer and for one island girl “I’m looking forward to it” with all the commotion and busyness I still love it when “the summer people” arrive.
